Diary of a Wild boy

Hey there, today I read a book called "Diary of a Wild Boy." In this blog post I will be sharing some information that was included in the book.

Brando decided to walk around the coastline of New Zealand because he wanted to turn his life around. His life had hit a dead end, he didn't like the life he had and he wanted to find a way out.

This was going be a long journey for him so he brought a map, a tent, a knife, a backpack, a phone and more.

It took him about 600 days just to finish his walk or journey.

In what I've read so far. Bacon and seafood is what it says he has eaten.

After he passed Takaka he came across a river. So he decided to walk pass it because he thought it was shallow enough to walk. He kind of zoned out and didn't realise that as he kept walking it started to get deeper. Because of the weight of his boots and pack he fell into the water and started to sink. He was trying to stay afloat but that didn't last long.

His favourite part of the walk was when he stopped by at Kahurangi Coast. It was his favourite part of the walk because the place was filled with nikau palms. It was a tropical forest where you can see birds and cliffs.

He said the that the Canterbury Coast is one giant cliff. He has been walking at the bottom of it for days. In one of those days he found a sheep that had fallen onto the beach and it was hungry. He felt the same way as the sheep did and decided to help it. He made it a leash and became his companion. He even named the sheep Bettie. They've gotten close until he found alot of other sheep and dropped her off there.

The trip taught Brando that reaching the finish line is not what matters but its mainly the journey thats important.

Henry Sunderland

Hey there, today I will be sharing an artist we are learning about in our hurumanu class. I will be sharing 10 facts about him.

This artist I'm talking about is Henry Sunderland who was Head of Art at Hornby High for many years.

He has made 2 books. One is called "Yes, the Year of the Mask, 2020," and the other one is called "Lockdown Island 2020: 49 Daily Cartoons from New Zealand."

Did you know that he had a twin brother? Henry has worked as a Childrens presenter with TVNZ with his twin brother.

When he made the lockdown book, he sent a copy to Jacinda Ardern as she was part of the book.

The lockdown book has island settings, but each page something different is happening. His sketches were drawn on specialised note paper.

He lectured at ARA. Art and Design was his subject. He has recently reitred.

Henry is well-known in Canterbury as a gnomolosgist, artist and tutor.

He published his first book in the year 2020.

He is over 70 years old.

  • 1 M HCl ( Hydrochloric Acid)

  • 1 M NaOH (Sodium Hydxide)

  • 4 Test tubes

  • Test tube rack

  • 2 plastic pipettes

Method:
  1. Take a test tube rack with 1 boiling tube at each end of the rack and 4 test tubes.

  2. Half Fill the boiling tube at one end with Sodium Hydroxide.

  3. Half fill the boiling tube at the other end with Hydrochloric acid.

  4. Fill each test tube with 5 drops of Universal indicator.

  5. Using the pipettes you will add drops of the acid or alkaline to the test tubes to make colours. DO NOT MIX UP THE PIPETTES

Acids

Aim: To make red cabbage pH indicator for use on different household chemicals.

  1. Red Cabbage

  2. Beaker

  3. Bunsen Burner

  4. Pipette

  5. Sodium Hydroxide

  6. Hydrochloric acid

  7. Test Tubes

  8. Paper towel

  9. Test tube rack

  10. Water

Steps:
  1. Chop up the red cabbage into small pieces. Place in a beaker and cover with a small amount of water.

  2. Bring the solution to the boil using a bunsen burner and then turn off the heat. Let it sit to cool down.

  3. Pour the cabbage water through a paper towel into a beaker. The dark purple liquid in the jar is the pH indicator liquid.

  4. Suck up the indicator into a pipette.

  5. Use the cabbage indicator to test the acidity of the different household liquids by slowly putting a drop at a time into the test tube.

Comic man

Hi there, today I will be sharing the work I did for my hurumanu 3 class. This work is about a famous perosn called Dylan Horrocks. They write comics.

Here is the work I did:

Comic Mans Timeline:

Explain:
A panel in a comic book is an individual frame or a single drawings

Frames are basic shapes where the drawings are placed

A text in a comic is something that is telling us what is happening

Borders in a comic is basically the same as frames in comics

Gutters are the space between panels

Speech bubbles are shapes where text is added

Captions are usually used to give voice to the narrator

Sound effects are used to describe someone's reaction

Details are something that makes information better or more detailed. Details can be used to describe something.

Character expression is a drawing of a character and showing its expression

Shape of speech bubbles can have different meanings for text.

Litmus Experiment

Materials:

  1. Red Litmus paper

  2. Blue Litmus paper

  3. Sodium Hydroxide

  4. Hydrochloric acid

  5. 4 Test tubes

Steps:

  1. Rip the litmus paper in half and put half in each test tube.

  2. Add 3 drops of hydrochloric acid to the blue litmus paper in test tube 1.

  3. Add 3 drops of hydrochloric acid to the red litmus paper in test tube 2.

  4. Add 3 drop of Sodium Hydroxide to the blue litmus paper in test tube 3.

  5. Add 3 drops of Sodium Hydroxide to the red litmus paper in test tube 4.

Findings:

The blue litmus paper with hydrochloric acid went light and stayed the same colour.

The blue litmus paper with sodium hydroxide went darker and kind of changed colours.

The red litmus paper with hydrochloric acid went to another colour in the middle.

The red litmus paper with sodium hydroxide went the same colour.
